Funny Evening at the Pavilion

What peculiar thing did Oscar Wilde do whilst reading a book? And why did
quizmaster Mark get asked to repeat the quote from Little Britain several
times?

Well, the answers to these and many other questions became apparent when
Comedy was the theme for the Lions well attended Charity Quiz Night at the
Pavilion on the Park. The evening started with a hearty meal provided by the
catering staff at the Pavilion following which, Lion President Mark Campbell
posing as Quizmaster opened proceedings.

He paid tribute to the impressive efforts of Lion Devan Kandiah , being the
driving force behind raising in excess of £30,000 to fund the new minibus for
One Community. The bus is due to be handed over to its new owners this
Thursday.

The quiz kicked off with catch phrases including ‘I’m the only gay in the
village’ from Little Britain, which hecklers from the audience seemed to enjoy
getting Mark to re-read. He did a sterling effort in going into character when going through all the other answers.

After the comedy sport round, members from each team were asked to volunteer
to come up and tell a joke for the Spot Prize. The audience then voting for the
joke raising the biggest laugh. Putting them on the spot as a stand up comedians
certainly revealed some hidden talents.

Other rounds followed, including two table picture rounds, to ponder during
the evening. Lion Ildi Clayton entertained us all at the end with her Auction
and Raffle, which helped to raise a very healthy £500+ towards our local good causes and made up for our inability to do any events during the pandemic restrictions. It seemed that everybody had an enjoyable evening and the fundraising committee plan to hold another Quiz later in the year.

Oh, and Oscar Wilde used to tear off the corner of each page and eat it
after he had read it!!
