Phil Heller’s Quiz theme this evening was ‘Ladies’, although the contestants represented both genders. Despite appalling conditions outside, a good crowd came along to participate in a light hearted and fun night. Over £300 was raised for good causes supported by the Lions. The Railway Institute in Eastleigh played host to the event which was suitably ‘Lionised’. Although the high winds outside almost resulted in the loss of one of our teardrop flags which had to be hurriedly rescued and relocated to a more sheltered spot.
Phil introduced some new elements to his quiz format including an ‘Only Connect’ grid where teams had to discover the associations between seemingly unconnected words. There was also a knock out round where team members played for additional points with one to four points available for the remaining players. In addition there were some spot prizes where we were treated to a rather ‘wooden’ performance of Lady Penelope’s Parker and a very stirring rendition of Lady Gaga’s Poker Face.
The final round was a picture quiz featuring a page full of ladies to be identified. Then it was on the well supported raffle and the awarding of the prize to the winning quiz team ‘the Fab Four’. Thanks to Lion Phil for the questions and his wife Bernice for keeping the scores. Thanks also to the other Lions and friends who helped with the raffle prizes and getting the hall prepared for the event and with the clearing up afterwards and making this a successful evening.
