When Eastleigh Lions heard about the plight of a young mother who lost her job during Covid and her severely disabled son who is suffering with multiple disorders needing a special pushchair capable of allowing mobility well into his teens we felt we would like to be able to help.
We were made aware of the situation by John Hanley of Meon Valley Lions. The lady in question lived in Boorley Green which was not in our area, but also not in John’s either. In fact the home was virtually equidistant from Meon Valley, Eastleigh and Swanwick who each host Lions Clubs. It was decided therefore, to jointly fund the cost of the wheelchair between the three clubs.
The family was being supported by Home-Start Hampshire who are based in Segensworth and on Tuesday morning the pushchair was accepted by Laura Vincent of Home-Start. Eric from Eastleigh Lions (in blue) and John from Meon Valley Lions (in yellow) were there for the handover. Laura told us that the mother was in tears on the phone when she was told of the acquisition of the buggy, because of how much it meant to her, now and for the future. It is always heartening to learn how such a small act of kindness can change peoples lives.
