Eastleigh Lions in association with the Charity PCaSO took over the Railway Institute for the day to take 320 blood samples which would be sent off to have their PSA tested.
This community event is something we try to do every year, and this year was even more succesful than ever All the available places were fully subscribed some time before the event.
Between us and the PCaSO personnel we were a well oiled machine ensuring that there was very little waiting for the phlebotomists and the welcome cup of tea or coffee afterwards. We found that most people were through the system in under seven minutes from walking into the entrance foyer of the Institute.
Most people will get the results of their test back in 7 to 10 days with a traffic light system indicating whether further investigation might be necessary to carry out. The bulk of results are negative but for some people the early intervention can be a life saver. (we have received feedback that of the 320, 292 were green, 11 amber and 17 red)
We would like to thank the Railway Institute for allowing us to use their main hall, which is an ideal space for us to process people through very efficiently. Also to all the Lion, PCaSO and NHS volunteers who worked hard to make this PSA event a success.
We hope to hold another event next October
